On March 29th, 2007 World Series of Poker champion, Jerry Yang, teamed up with Feed The Children to deliver ten semi tractor-trailers full of food to The Foodbank of Southern California in Long Beach. Washington Redskins Safety, Omar Stoutmire, was also at The Foodbank Saturday morning to support the food distribution to over 4,000 families. Each family received a 25 pound box of food, and box of personal care items. Because Yang believes that every child needs something to play with, JAKKS Packfic Fly Wheels XPV remote control vehicles, with batteries, were also distributed to children who attended on Saturday.

During the 2009 Memorial Day holiday, Foodbank President John Knapp sponsored an an entry in his hometown (Akron, OH) Soap Box Derby. Knapp raced in the derby in the late '60's and would love to see a local derby in Southern California so underprivileged kids could enter. Participating in the derby is an all-around education. It teaches children how to get along with people, use their hands, how to take defeat, and about friendship-building. It's an experience for the entire family.
